Last night, a few minutes after one, I woke up to the sound of my dad shouting stuff to my mom. It took me a couple seconds to realize he was telling her there was someone prowling around the house. He said he saw a white guy dressed in all black go around the side of the house, into the back yard.

After hearing this, I spent the next two hours with the bedroom door locked, a pair of scissors in my hand, and I sat as far from the windows as I could. I had to usethe bathroom, but I couldn't because the toilets were too close to the windows for my liking.

I didn't see this guy, but this morning my dad went out and found a bunch of footprints outside. Different patterns, meaning there was more than one prowler.

I call this a nightmare come true because for the longest time, I've had nightmares of people breaking into the house and killing Hewie. And last night, those nightmares were so close to coming true.

Don't worry, guys, we're okay. My dad called the police and went they came by they were questioning someone, or so my dad thought. It was too dark for him to see, but he thought he saw some people standing around one of the police cruisers down the street.

Damn, today I could barely concentrate. I was so worried that the others would come back and get Hewie while the house was empty. He's fine, though.

Sadly, they are allowed to do it because there are no laws that prevent abuse against birds in slaughterhouses. The chickens are given drugs to make them grow are such a fast rate, their legs break underneath them. Most of the birds look like they're adults by the time they go to slaughter, but in actuality they're still babies. Not even two months old. When they do go to slaughter, they're hung upside on a machine that cuts their throats, but not deeply enough to kill them. They do die, however, when they're dunked into scalding-hot tanks of water to remove their feathers. No painkillers are given. The next time you buy chicken from KFC, take a moment to think about the hell the chickens in the bucket had to go through just for profit.
